Basuki to Change Trash Transportation System

All this time, trash transportation system in the city is considered ineffective because trash piles can be easily found on roadsides and settlements. Because of that, Jakarta Provincial Government will change the system by implementing per ton counting system.

We should not use per ton counting again, but per area. If those operators didn’t agree, we’ll offer it to other parties that are better

Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that most trash transportation private operators escaped responsibility when the duty of 100 tons per day is fulfilled.

“If like that, they can take trash in other regions. I want to change what has been conducted for tens of years,” he stated, Tuesday (5/20).

9,000 Janitors Still Unable to Keep Jakarta Clean

According to Basuki, the future trash transportation in Jakarta will be conducted by applying zoning system. Thus, each trash transportation operator is responsible for the cleanliness of their region and determine how many daily janitors (PHL) needed.

We should not use per ton counting again, but per area. If those operators didn’t agree, we’ll offer it to other parties that are better. For example, this floor is Basuki’s responsibility. If it’s not clean, Basuki should be responsible. That is the pattern we’ll do. Later, urban village and sub-district heads will be the one who supervise it,” he uttered.

In addition, Basuki also asks for trash transportation from Jakarta to Bantargebang Integrated Wastes Treatment (TPST) not to be conducted in the afternoon because it affects to traffic jam.

“Trash transportation is conducted every day, but the operational done at night. So, when people go to work and return home, there will be no trash because the janitors transport the trashes at night,” he explained.
